Research

My PhD project is centered on understanding the malignant progression of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common type of skin cancer. Through sequencing of normal skin, actinic keratosis (premalignant lesion) and SCC, our goal is to understand the initiation and progression of malignancy leading to SCC, while defining the different cell-types and cell-states present on each stage of the progression. This would bring new insights, not only to get an effective treatment for SCC but also for the prevention and early diagnosis.

Biography

Hello, I am Aida, a PhD student student since April 2023. I did my bachelor in Biology in the University of Extremadura in Spain. In the final year of my bachelor, I developed an interest in bioinformatics, which led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics at KU Leuven in Belgium. My favorite area of study was the analysis of sequencing data, particularly within the field of cancer research. To further specialize in this area, I began my PhD at the Laboratory of Histology at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium.
